Lolita
Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins. My sin, my soul. Lo-lee-ta: the tip of the tongue taking a trip of three steps down the palate to tap, at three, on the teeth. Lo. Lee. Ta. She was Lo, plain Lo, in the morning, standing four feet ten in one sock. She was Lola in slacks. She was Dolly at school. She was Dolores on the dotted line. But in my arms she was always Lolita. Did she have a...

Feeling a little better. Thank you, sleep!
Thanks! I’ll be sure to try that next time. :)
Hahaha! It is kind of funny! :P

Mother, mother! I am sick.
With episodes of splitting headaches and tummy-acting-funny, I was quite sure that my workmate was right when she said I must be under great stress. I’ve taken way too many meds this week that I actually feel uncomfortable taking another for fear of over-dosage and dependence. I want to see a doctor and have him tell me to slow it down or something. I just hate feeling sick.
So early this...

Saddest Poem
I can write the saddest poem of all tonight.
Write, for instance: “The night is full of stars, and the stars, blue, shiver in the distance.”
The night wind whirls in the sky and sings.
I can write the saddest poem of all tonight. I loved her, and sometimes she loved me too.
On nights like this, I held her in my arms. I kissed her so many times under the infinite sky.
She...

But when I got home and saw our dog leap up when she saw me, I was all calm and happy. Now I think I know what parents feel like. LOL.

I used to think I knew everything.
I was a “smart person” who “got things done,” and because of that, the higher I climbed, the more I could look down and scoff at what seemed silly or simple, even religion. But I realized something as I drove home that night: that I am neither better nor smarter, only luckier. And I should be ashamed of thinking I knew everything, because you can know the whole world and...

Stop judging, that you may not be judged.
For as you judge, so will you be judged, and the measure with which you measure will be measured out to you. Why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye, but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while the wooden beam is in your eye? You hypocrite, remove the wooden beam from your...
